5 Things You Should Have in Your Home Binder

After Mr. RCGG and I moved to Savannah, I created a home binder. I wanted somewhere to keep our important information in one place as well as addresses, birthday lists, emergency contacts, and emergency stock up lists (for hurricane season.)

There’s many reasons for having a home binder, but I’m touching on the five reasons I use one. Besides wanting a place to keep important information and the information listed above I wanted somewhere to keep lists of restaurants, day trip and travel ideas.

When I first started thinking of what I wanted to include in my home binder it was kind of mind boggling! I had no idea what a home binder was for then but I heard people talking about them. I started researching and decided that it was a great idea to keep important documents that we were not putting in our file cabinet.

So let’s take a look at what’s in my home binder.

I originally used this binder as my blogging planner so it still has my I love blogging sticker on it! Haha!

Owning your home means you have to do your own maintenance instead of calling the maintenance guy. I found a great monthly maintenance checklist that I included in my home binder.

You should also have a list of first aid kit supplies. This way you can have it on hand to know what goes in a first aid kit and how to create one for your home and your car.

I have a copy of my cleaning schedule in my home binder. I use a Polka Dot Posie Print (of course) free printable for my cleaning schedule. It is divided into week days, weekends, monthly, and seasonal. That way you can schedule your Monday-Friday chores and weekend chores, as well as your monthly and seasonal chores. Jen has a free home management planner on her shop blog that you can download. It has several other home management planner pages! If you are new around RCGG you’ll find out that I love The Polka Dot Posie Print! I use the planners and stickers regularly.

My next item that I keep in my home binder is just for fun! I found a list of random days of fun. Like did you know that February 4th is Thank Your Mailman Day? Haha! This list is just a small sample of the thousands of National Days of random things. I’m sure you can find one that you like! The one I have pictured is a summer holiday list!

Since we live in a coastal region and we are in the midst of hurricane season right now, I have an emergency preparedness checklist in my home binder. This is a good idea no matter where you live because emergencies happen everywhere. Not just on the coast.  An emergency can come up at any time and being prepared is the best thing you can do. We are not doomsday preppers by any means, but we like to keep the essentials on hand, just in case. Plus when a hurricane does look like it is going to come for the Georgia/South Carolina coast some stores jack up their prices on cases of water and other essential items. Having them on hand already saves you money!

I also have a list for emergency prep for the cats! This is very important because you do not want to forget that your pets need to have food, water, any medications as well in an emergency.

Just a few other things that I have in my home binder are a travel bucket list, restaurants to try list, recipes, my contact list, books read and books to read, spring and fall cleaning lists, seasonal bucket lists, etc.

I also have a contact list of our doctors offices, health insurance information, and emergency contacts. This is definitely a MUST HAVE!

As we go on through this section there’s a page for special dates like birthdays and anniversaries, annual dates like yearly appointments, etc.

Keeping a home binder is a great way to have everything in one place. You can keep adding to it as your life changes with babysitter information, your child’s friends information, etc. Whatever suits your family.
