My First Apple Pie

If you have been around long enough you know that I love baking. It comforts me. There has always been one thing that I have never made though. A pie. They scared me! Until I realized that they were so easy to make! While my parents were visiting in September I made my first apple pie!

My home church has an annual craft fair every October. One of the big sellers is pies. They make several different kinds. The pie crust recipe that they have used for thousands of years is my grandma’s recipe. Okay, the recipe is not thousands of years old, but it may as well be that old! My grandma used this recipe for as long as I can remember. Anyway, this pie crust recipe is why pies have always scared me! I never wanted to try making one because I didn’t want to let her down if my crust failed!

Making a pie crust is easy, but I will not be showing you how to make a pie crust! I still don’t want to attempt it. I’ll be sharing how my mom and I made my first apple pie!

You need:
apples
sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
ground cloves
corn starch
ready made pie crust

First you need to peel, core, and slice your apples. This was probably the most time consuming part of making the pie. Once your apples are done toss them in a bowl with the spices.

Take your ready made pie crust, and roll it out into your pie plate.

Pinch the parts the fall over the sides so that it kind of seals to the pie plate.

Next fill the pie plate with the apples.

I wanted our pie to have a lattice crust so we used the second sheet of pie crust to cut the lattice design.

You have to weave them together so that it looks all good. Haha!

Bake your pie at 350 degrees until the outer crust starts to brown. Then take a piece of foil and wrap around the outer crust so that it doesn’t burn while the rest of the pie still bakes.

You will want to keep an eye on your pie while it is baking because you want your apples to be soft but you don’t want your crusts to burn. I think the bake time ended up being around 50 minutes!

So it takes some time to make an apple pie, but in the end it is all worth it! Just the time spent with my mom made it even better!

What is your favorite kind of pie?
