Wedding Cake Sugar cookies

One of the little touches I am doing for the wedding was make wedding cake sugar cookies.  I found a cake shaped cookie cutter at Hobby Lobby sometime last month and knew that I wanted make cookies as an extra little treat at the wedding.

I know, you are probably thinking that I am crazy for wanting to make cookies the week before the wedding.  Well, baking calms me.  It will help relieve any pre-wedding stress that may creep upon me this week. I will post pictures of them after the wedding.

I couldn’t find my baking book that has my grandma’s sugar cookie recipe in it so I used this one instead:

SUGAR COOKIES THAT HOLD THEIR SHAPE
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 whole eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.

Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.

Chill for 1 hour or overnight.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Rol out dough on a lightly floured surface. (I usually add a little bit of powdered sugar onto the surface I am rolling the cookies on as well. You don’t have to do this.) Cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Place onto parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Bake for 6-8 minutes.

I am going to decorate the cookies with sanding sugar in our wedding colors, turquoise and pink.
