On today’s visit of Coastal Georgia we are stopping at Old Fort Jackson. This is the oldest brick fortification in the state of Georgia. It is a 10 minute drive from downtown Savannah.
Old Fort Jackson is a great place to take your children to learn about what life was like for soldiers while living in a fort. There are daily cannon firings and they might learn how to fire the cannon. Old Fort Jackson is right on the Savannah River and the ships going into port pass right by the fort. The historical re-enactors give a cannon salute to the passing ship. It is so fun to watch the deckhands on the ship react to the cannon.
