Amelia Island was named for Princess Amelia. She was the daughter o of George II of Great Britian. The island has changed hands several times throughout history. Amelia Island has had eight flags flown over it throughout its history. France, Spain, Great Britain, Patriot, Green Cross, Mexican, Confederate, and United States. I had to google Patriot and Green Cross so I linked the history of the flags.
Fort Clinch is actually on Amelia Island.
