Easter -

I know this is a day late, but I wanted to write a little bit about what Easter means to me. Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays. When I was too young to actually understand why Jesus died on the cross, I always dyed eggs and tried to make them look like they were just more than pretty colors. I always wanted them to be more than one color. I never understood the Easter bunny though. You have to keep eggs cool right? So they are usually in your fridge before he comes to hide them. He comes in your house and opens your fridge and takes the eggs and hides them. I mean, Santa Clauss comes in your house, but he doesn’t go looking through your fridge. He stays wherever your Christmas tree is. Anyways, I was scared of the Easter bunny when I was little. I still don’t really care for him. AND I’m 26 now.

I always loved Easter at my church in Illinois. Palm Sunday was always our Easter Cantata and when Eric sang “Peter’s Song”. I love that song so much. It is basically about the Peter’s denial of Jesus 3 times before the rooster crows. So amazing. On Easter Sunday, we have sunrise service and David sings “Rise Again”. It is so beautiful to hear at such a special service. I always had chills when both men sang those songs. After sunrise service we always have a breakfast. Biscuits and Gravy made by our expert biscuits and gravy chef, Mr. Fields. Of course there is always more than just biscuits and gravy. Doughnuts, muffins, sausage balls, bagels, fruits.

After breakfast we would go home and I would look for my Easter basket. When I was little the Easter bunny hid my Easter basket in some crazy places. One year I found it on top of our shed. Another year when it was cold or rainy, I found it in the washer. I always got a couple of toys and some kind of clothing and of course candy. Usually a bag of jelly beans and a couple of cadbury creme eggs. I love those!! My mom doesn’t. She thinks they look disgusting. Anyways, After I found my Easter basket the egg hunt began. It was always fun. I loved looking for them and sometimes I would see some before we went to church and I would get those first. LOL! As I got older and didn’t look for eggs I found my basket and then took a little nap. Time to go back to church for regualr service. After church I would exchange a gift bag of candy with my best friend. When we got home we would change and then go to my grandma’s house for lunch. Before lunch we would find our baskets there. They were always hidden in high places. The Easter bunny that went to their house liked to jump. Mine was always in a tree. I loved climbing trees so it was always good for me. We would have lunch and then my aunts would go out and hide eggs for the kids to find. It was always so much fun.

Easter is such a special time. I didn’t really think about the whole story until i saw the movie, The Passion of the Christ . It opened my eyes.
