Wizard of Oz has been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember. I remember my mom telling me that the wicked witch didn’t scare me when I was little like she has scared many other little children. Margaret Hamilton had said that little children would hide behind their mothers when they saw her.
In 2006, I had the opportunity to meet Mickey Carroll. he was one of the muchkins in the movie. Above is a picture of me with him. He came to Carbondale, IL. All proceeds from his autograph sales went to help children of Hurricane Katrina.
In 2007, the munchkins FINALLY recieved a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
November 20, 2007 was the day that the munchkins from The Wizard of Oz finally got their long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Before the ceremony, a screening of the movie was shown at Grauman’s Chinese theater. It was premeired there 70 years ago.
I am in a yahoo group called Everythng Oz. It is a group of Oz fans from all over the world. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year with games every month. Right now we are having a trvia tag question game and an alphabet game. With the trivia tag question game, someone asks a question pertaining to the theme of the month and the person that answers correctly gets to asks the next question. The alphabet game was only started a few days ago. In this game a letter is given and you come up with as many things as you can that start with that letter. All games on Everything Oz are totally optional. You don’t have to play.
A member of the group, Sharon, has a blog about Wizard of Oz items that are coming out. Here is the link to it: http://www.curiozitycorner.blogspot.com/
No matter what mood I am in Oz always makes me happy. I love the feeling I get when I hear the MGM lion roar at the beginning. I have seen this wonderful movie on the big screen twice. I loved how I could pick things out watching it then that I hadn’t before. Like in the Kansas scene when Miss Gulch comes for Toto, I head Toto whimpering while he was being put in the basket.
