This past weekend Mr. RCGG and I went to the beach! We drove down to Amelia Island Florida on Friday! We got there at about 7pm and settled into our hotel. Then went to get some dinner! We had Applebees. After dinner we went back to the hotel and relaxed after our long day of driving.
On Saturday, we went to check out the beach of Amelia Island. It was so pretty! There were shells all over the place.
On we went to Fort Clinch. It is on the Northeast coast of Florida. To get to this fort you have to go down this little highway! Yeah, that’s the A1A! Haha! I was a little excited! If there wasn’t a lot of traffic I would have had Mr. RCGG take my picture with it! =)
Just as we were paying for entry to the fort a wedding had just finished! These people walking out of the fort were from this wedding. The bride was dressed in a period late civil war style dress!
You can see Cumberland Island GA from there. It was pretty foggy out to sea on Saturday afternoon so we couldn’t see it very well! After the Fort we walked along the beach for a few minutes. We found so many huge shells! I had never seen so many that were complete. There was this huge pipeline going down this beach and we still haven’t been able to figure out why! We went to walk around the downtown Fernandina Beach area and found some really cute shops.
Fernandina Beach was a pirate stop at one point so there are pirate statues all over the down town.We also saw an orange tree! It didn’t really look like there were a lot of oranges on this particular tree, but we saw some other ones that did have a lot more fruit on them.
When we got to JI it was pretty foggy! The fog rolls in with the cooler temps and it was really thick. There were times we couldn’t even see in front of us! This was Sunday on Driftwood Beach. usually you can see St. Simon’s Island from Jekyll, but you couldn’t through the fog. On Sunday we also went to The Georgia Sea Turtle Center. We have been wanting to go there every trip we have made down to Jekyll Island. They rehab injured sea turtles back to health and are able to release some of them back into the ocean.
This is one of the turtles they are currently bringing back to health!
We left Monday morning to head back home! We stopped in Macon at the Bass Pro Shop. We have stopped here on our way home after several beach trips! On this trip Mr. RCGG discovered that they have a clearance section!
We were so glad to have had this trip! It has made my longing for a beach house greater though, but someday I will live on the beach. I can’t wait until we go back in a few months!
