Fort Clinch is a fort in Florida that was established in 1736 by the Spanish. It was also used in the War of 1812,Seminole Wars and Civil War. The Confederates took over Fort Clinch in early 1861 and used it as a safe place for their blockade runners. In 1862, General Lee ordered abandonment of the fort.
During the Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps began restoration on the fort restoring it back to the civil war era. The fort was closed to the public and used as a security post during WWII. It was reopened after the war ended. Fort Clinch was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
