My favorite solider

I know I did a post about this guy for Memorial Day, but I thought I would do another one so I could share a little bit more about him.

My Poppy was one of my favorite men. He was in the army during World War II. He was in the 1st Rangers. Poppy was one of six surviving from that outfit. My aunt wrote a paper for a college class around the 50th anniversary of D-Day and talked to him about what it was like during the war. Poppy told her that war was hell. He had gerneades flying over his head at all hours.
When I was in junior high I had to interview a person that had been in a war. Of course I interviewed Poppy. He wouldn’t tell me details like he told my aunt but I think that was because he didn’t want to scare me. He told me that he was in the 1st Rangers with Colnel Darby. My teacher, Mr. Stalker, saw Poppy coming into church one Sunday (we attended the same church as a few of my teachers) and he said that he has gained a lot of respect for Paul Pedigo because he was a Ranger. When I had to give the oral presentation in class, I was one of the first people. Mr. Stalker was so impressed with the fact that Poppy was a Ranger that he had to stop the rest of the presentations for the day. I guess he couldn’t believe that someone he knew was that close to history.
My poppy had a great impact on my life. He was a great man. He passed away in 2005, but I miss him every day.
