DIY Grinch Ornament

One of my favorite Christmas movies is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I love the original cartoon version narrated by Boris Karloff! His voice is one of those classic voices that you never forget.

I have participated in an ornament exchange for the past three years. It is hosted by my blog friend, Amy, from One Artsy Mama! It has become one of my favorite holiday traditions.

12 Days of Cookies- Candy Cane Blossoms

I love peppermint! It’s one of my favorite things about the holiday season! There’s just something about the smell that makes a home so inviting and festive! Candy cane blossoms are somewhat new to me. I have made them before, but didn’t use this recipe. I think this one turned out so much better.

12 Days of Cookies- Grandma’s Peanut Butter Cookies

My grandma didn’t make peanut butter cookies as often as she did the monster cookies, but they were a family favorite too! The house would always smell like peanut butter for days after she made them. When I smell lingering peanut butter now I think of her!

12 Days of Cookies- Monster Cookies

The printable recipe on this post did not save correctly. I’m working on fixing this ASAP. Monster cookies have always been a family favorite! My grandma made them and I always thought I would never get the recipe. She gave it to church family as wedding shower gifts and I was sad that my friends were getting it before I was. Well, when we made our first visit to Southern Illinois she gave it to me for my birthday. She also gave me a few of the ingredients! Enter His Gates

Psalm 100:4 says  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving

This always reminds me of a song we would sing at church. I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart. I will enter His courts with praise. I will say this is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

Giving thanks shouldn’t be limited to just one day a year. We need to be thankful to God every day of our lives. As we gather around the table this year let’s be thankful for the people in our lives, the food before us, and the love between us.

Here’s my November Intentions for Random Crafty Georgia Girl

Chicken Tater Tot Casserole

Chicken tater tot casserole is an adaption of a casserole that my mom made while I was growing up. In her recipe you used ground beef and cream of mushroom soup. I used chicken, enchilada soup,  and cheese soup.

dscn3081

First, cook your chicken. You can season it if you want, but you don’t have to. I used Paula Deen’s house seasoning for mine.

dscn3086

When the chicken is cool enough to handle shred it using two forks.

dscn3088

In a pan, mix the chicken, the soups, and taco seasoning together on medium heat.

dscn3089

Pour into a casserole dish spreading the chicken and cheese mixture to cover the dish.

dscn3090

Top with tater tots and bake for 30-45 minutes in a 400 degree oven.

dscn3091

Add cheese to the top when you have around five minutes of cooking time left.

dscn3092

So good! You can serve with something else but this is a very filling meal just by itself!

This was so easy to make and such a great adaption of a meal that I grew up eating. The original of this was the first thing I learned how to make on my own and it has been a loved family recipe ever since. To make the original recipe just use ground beef and cream of mushroom soup. Everything else is the same.

Do you have any family recipes that you have changed up a bit to make them your own?
