Making Your Apartment Home – Welcome Mat
My husband and I recently moved into our own apartment. We lived with his parents since moving to Georgia in 2008 and for almost four years after we were married. Mr. RCGG had been looking for a new job and when he was offered a position with Fed Ex in the Hilton Head SC area we knew it was a big opportunity for us!
So during our packing I decided that making an apartment home would be the best topic for my 31 days writing this year. My welcome may post is actually a couple days late because we just got our welcome may from Amazon on Sunday, but I will still have this post on the first.
Anyways, as a fourth anniversary gift my mom made a banner for our door! It’s magnetic or can be put on a garden flag.
Do you have a welcome mat or banner at your door?
I’d love to see it! Show me on the Random Crafty Georgia Girl Facebook page!

31 Ways to Make Your Apartment Home
Every October I participate in the Write 31 Days challenge. It’s a great way to get back into a steady habit of writing! I have done the challengge before but burned out by the second week. Last year I got so close to the end, but a family emergency came up and I had to stop! I’ll finish the last few posts of last year’s topic soon! Continue reading
Six Things to Say on Purpose
In the past I have kept my faith to myself because I felt it was somewhat of a controversial subject. There are so many different religions that I didn’t want to offend any of my readers in case they weren’t of the same faith as me. Well, I decided that this was a dumb reason for not taking the chance to maybe reach out to someone that may not know God. I realized that there may be someone out there reading my blog that doesn’t know God, that may be questioning their faith in God, or was going through a rough time in life. Maybe someone needs to see what I have to say!
Never Forget 15 years later
As I look back on this date every year, I get a sense of pride. This pride comes from knowing that fifteen years ago our country banded together and overcame and attack. An attack that was the biggest attack on United States soil since the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
A Tour of Georgia pt. 3
Plains is a very small town with big history! A former president lives there! President Carter has called Plains his home his entire life. With exception of the years that he was governor of Georgia (1971-1975) and our president (1977-1981) that is! He also served in the Georgia state senate from 1963-1967.
After his presidency, Carter returned to his peanut farm in Plains. It had been left in a blind trust when he was in office to avoid conflict of interest, but the trust mismanaged the farm leaving him in debt. He has since published books, started Habitat for Humanity, established The Carter Center built his presidential library, taught at Emory University in Atlanta, and has lived longer after leaving office than any other president. He also teaches Sunday School a few times a month at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains! Click the link to see when he will be teaching and the FAQ’s about going to see him teach.
My husband and I visited Plains the same weekend we went on our Andersonville trip.
The Carters are extremely private people! They do make appearances around town to do their usual every day routine, but would appreciate if you respect their privacy!
Life in Savannah
Have you wondered how the RCGG life has been going in Savannah? Mr. RCGG and I have have been pretty busy. He’s working every Tuesday through Saturday with his new job. He’s off on Sunday and Monday so those days are our weekends! We have been exploring our new city and finding new restaurants, shopping, and just walking around the beautiful city of Savannah, GA.
BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
I have said before that I love when something you make for dinner just comes together. This is kind of one of those recipes and kind of not! It had a bit of a fail with it but it turned out to be a win! Continue reading
Prayer Journaling
When I was growing up, I remember that prayer was something that you said before dinner and at bedtime. I never thought about it being a way to actually talk to God.
I have always had a hard time praying out loud. It’s not that I don’t know how to pray, but that when I pray out loud I feel as if I all of a sudden I forget what I was going to say. I have always felt more comfortable writing my thoughts to God. Kind of like writing a letter to a friend. I started keeping a prayer journal a few years ago. This way I can pray to God without having to pray out loud.
How do I keep a prayer journal? It’s writing out my praises and requests, but sometimes also include a small doodle or hand lettered quote. It’s just a fun little way to bring life to your time with God.
What kind of things do I write? I write what I am thankful for that day, something I feel that I need help with in my lie, or just a little drawing and quote.
Have you heard of the CHAT prayer method?
I have been using this as a template for my prayer because it is a really easy way to remember that thanking God comes first and asking Him for guidance should come last. Praying doesn’t have to be something to fear. Do you know how many times the words, DO NOT BE AFRAID are in the Bible? 365. That’s once for every day of the year! God doesn’t want us to be afraid of anything and we shouldn’t fear talking to Him when He’s the one who can give us comfort!
