The Southern Special 16

Thanks so much for joining us for another week of The Southern Special! Wasn’t it just last Tuesday yesterday? The past week has just flown by don’t you think? Anyways, this week we are doing a little something special! We have answered some fun get to know you questions that we would like to share with you!

Dawn’s answers:
Blogging questions:

How long have you been blogging? 2 years on June 18th
Why did you start blogging? I became an empty nester and needed to fill my time, plus friends and family had been asking me for years for recipes or to write a book. So blogging seemed like a good place to start.

How did you come up with your blog name? I struggled with that one. My husband and I sat around for a couple of days making list of names until we found one we liked.

What has been your most viewed post? Beef Doritos Casserole

Do you have any blogging advice? It’s a lot of work or a lot of fun, that is up to you. Like a baby, time consuming, don’t do it if you don’t love it and make it yours. There are a million articles on how to be a successful blogger, but my experience has been like anything else in life, what works for one does not always work for another. Find what works for you and stick with it.

Personal questions:

How long have you and your husband been married? We celebrated 23 years of marriage in May. We have been together 25

How did you meet your husband? hahaha now THAT is a story in itself. I was dating his roommate.

Do you have children? I have 3 grown sons, two with my husband. PLUS 2 grandchildren

What are some of your hobbies? cooking, reading, photography, writing

Do you have any pets? 3 furbabies, cats

Where do you see yourself in five years? Working on a book that has been accepted for publication Ten years? Preparing for retirement

Do you have a favorite book? The Mitford Series, by Jan Karon. It is a set of 8 and I have read the entire series 6 times. I love them.

What is your favorite vacation place? I have only been on vacation twice in my life so I don’t have a favorite spot. Anywhere would be nice.

Does your town have any fun festivals in the summer? We recently moved to a teeny tiny town in South Georgia and yes, we have the Wild Chicken Festival

Cate’s answers:

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for five years.

Why did you start blogging?

I started my blog as a way to let my family in Illinois know what I was doing in Georgia. I don’t even think they knew about it until I started sharing my posts on Facebook and that was recently!

How did you come up with your blog name?

Well, I’m a Random Crafty Georgia Girl! I post about the crafts I make along with the randoms of my life while living in Georgia! (I’m a girl too just in case you didn’t know that!)

What has been your most viewed post?

Peanut Butter Blossoms

Do you have any blogging advice?

Just be yourself. Don’t try to make your blog something that you aren’t! When I first started blogging, I didn’t really know what I wanted my niche to be. Just find something you like and it will come to you!

Personal questions:

How long have you and your husband been married?

Mr. RCGG and I celebrated 2 years on July 21st.

How did you meet your husband?

We met through mutual friends. He was homeschooled and his friends were in my class.

No.

I love reading, making crafts, and blogging.

In five years, I see myself living closer to the beach with Mr. RCGG and our kids! In ten years, I see myself still on the beach with the husband and kids! Haha! I like the beach!

Do you have a favorite book?

My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It is the only book I have ever read more than once. Every time I read it I find something different about it!

What is your favorite vacation place?

We love Jekyll Island! I have blogged about it many times. We were married there almost two years ago! It just has this beauty that makes you want to get back to nature. You wouldn’t even know you are by the ocean.

Thirty Two Years

32? I don’t feel a day over 22! Age is just a number! I have never had a problem with my age! I view birthdays as a blessing from God! He has given us another year of praising Him!

I try to make my birthday extend as much as I can. This year was no exception. Since it fell on a Sunday this year Mr. RCGG and I did our usual Friday night shopping, but he wanted to get some things that I had asked for that he didn’t know styles of! Like I wanted a new bathing suit and some maxi dresses. I found a really cute bathing suit! It is a tankini top and shorts for the bottom! I’m still looking for the maxi dresses! I haven’t found any that I liked yet!

Usually I don’t make my own birthday cake, but I wanted a special cake this year! The cake I wanted has been a favorite of mine for quite a few years! I hadn’t had it since moving to Georgia and I knew I had to make it! The woman who made it for me before passed away a couple years ago and I know she was watching me make it smiling!

[gmc_recipe 2046]

It was so easy to make and I know I will make it again! It got quite a lot of attention on Facebook! I posted a picture of it after it came out of the oven and it practically went viral within my friends list!
It tasted just like I remember Georgia making it! So chocolaty and soft! If you make it let me know what you think!

So as, I said before, age is just a number! Birthdays are a blessing from God that we should live our life to the fullest! I’m looking forward to seeing what He has in store for me in year 32!

I love every moment of my life with this man! He has always been there for me and I know he always will be there for me! He makes me laugh, gives me confidence, strength, loves my creativity, goes to craft stores with me even though he doesn’t like them, and loves me for who I am!

My Daily Devotions

My daily devotions are an important part of my life! Even if I’m busy and don’t have time for anything else there’s always time for God! I have been a Christian my whole life! I went to church and Sunday School as a child and until I moved. Mr. RCGG and I haven’t found a church that we feel at home in in Georgia so I started a devotional time to make up for that!

Just because we don’t go to church doesn’t make us bad people. Going to church doesn’t make you any more of a Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car. It’s the lifestyle you lead that makes you a Christian! God has done many things in my life and I want to take time to thank Him for what He has done. He’s gotten me through some pretty hard days and I know that with Him I can do everything because He gives me the strength to do them. {Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!}

That verse alone is all the reason I need to know that God works in our lives! Quite a few years ago I was involved in a traffic accident. A young boy was hurt and I was sued for negligent driving. I repeated Philippians 4:13 in my head over the course of several months. The day before the case was supposed to go to trial I called my lawyer to find out what was going to happen. He sid he was just getting ready to call. The case had been settled out of court in my favor!  I cannot explain how grateful I was to God for this! I know I had my church family praying for me! As soon as I got off the phone with my lawyer I called as many of them as I could to thank them for their prayers. He was listening to our prayers and knew when was the right time to to tell Satan to BACK OFF!

I have had many blessings in my life and I take the time every day to thank God for them! He is the reason I am the person I am!

Do you spend time with God every day? When you have moved have you found it difficult to find a new church?

Currently…

I haven’t posted a Currently in a long time! So I thought it was a great time to pick it up! I think I will be posting this every month! Here’s this month’s Currently!

currently

Reading:
Happy Wives Club by Fawn Weaver. In this book the author travels all around the world to interview couples that have been married for 25+ years to find out what it takes to have a successful marriage. I have learned so much from it. I have underlined many passages from it and I know I will be referring to it for years to come!
I’m also reading a couple of devotions every day. I read New Day New You by Joyce Meyer and Project 345 on the You Version Bible app website. Project 345 is a devotion that you read a chapter every day except weekends. I will be posting more about my daily time with God sometime next week.

Listening to:
a website called rainy mood. It simulates rain and helps you relax or concentrate. You know how sometimes you get more done during a rain storm?

Practicing on guitar:
The two songs that I decided to learn are Good Riddance by Green Day and God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You by Nsync. I know totally different genres of music huh? I’m excited to start working on them. I have been learning basic chords and I’m hoping to start putting them together soon!

Watching: Once Upon A Time on Netflix. I’m in season 2 and I love it! If you have seen all of season 2 and 3 please DO NOT tell me anything! I am excited to see the Oz tie ins.

Excited for:
As strange as it may sound, I’m really excited to get my planner printed. I bought a planner from The Polka Dot Posie Print shop on Etsy. I have to wait for my cover to get here before I actually print it though.
I’m also excited that my birthday is coming up! I know a lot of women don’t like their birthday because it means they are getting older. I look at birthdays as another year of blessings from God!

I love giving you a peek into the world behind the scenes of the RCGG world and Currently posts are a great way to do that! I look forward to more currently posts and I encourage you to share what is currently going on in your life behind your blog! As you may remember, I go offline over the weekends to spend time with my family! Over the summer, I will be including Friday in that time! So I will talk to y’all on Monday with a weekend recap!

Have  great weekend!
