Buckeyes or peanut butter balls

Another thing I like to make for Christmas gifts sometimes are Buckeyes or peanut butter balls.  They are so easy to make.

Ingredients

2 cups peanut butter
1 stick margarine, melted
3 cups sifted confectioners sugar
16 ounces chocolate chips

Directions

  1. In a large bowl combine the peanut butter, margarine and confectioners sugar and mix well.
  2. Chill, form into walnut size balls.
  3. Melt chocolate chips  in a double boiler.
  4. Dip balls into chocolate mixture to coat.
  5. Place on wax paper until firm.

Christmas baking

I thought I would do another holiday series.  I love baking.  It relaxes and calms me.  I also bake when I am bored.  I thought I would share a cookie or candy recipe with you through Christmas.  I will be making Puppy Chow for some family members.
Here is the recipe:

Puppy Chow

Ingredients:

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
9 cups Crispix cereal (any flavor)
3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions:

1. Combine peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.

2. Microwave for one minute then stir to blend all ingredients thoroughly. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir well.

3. Place the 9 cups of Crispix cereal in a very large bowl.

4. Pour the peanut butter-chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal gets a good covering.

5. Place the powdered sugar in a large zip-lock type plastic bag.

6. Add the peanut butter-chocolate cereal mixture to the bag, leaving enough room for the puppy chow to be shaken (you may have to divide the mixture into smaller batches, coating one batch at a time).

7. Shake the bag vigorously to evenly coat each piece of the puppy chow with powdered sugar.

8. Once the mixture is fully coated, place in a large serving bowl.

9. Coat any additional pieces by shaking the mixture in the powdered sugar filled bag. Add powdered sugar to the bag as needed until all the mixture is coated.

It is so easy and fun to make.  Little ones can help shake the bag.

Slowly decorating

Have you finished decorating for the holidays yet?  We have two trees up so far.  We put on in our living room window and one in our bedroom so far.  I want to put this in the living room window:

Yes that is the leg lamp from A Christmas Story.  My parents got it for N for Christmas last year.  He loves that movie.

Holiday tradtions

Do you have any special traditons that you do?
We watch A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve.
We also have a birthday party.  Munchkin’s birthday is Christmas Eve.

In my family we didn’t put presents under the tree until Christmas Eve.

Meet Me on Monday 11-21-11

Here is this week’s Meet Me on Monday:

Questions:

1. I wish I had more time to _________?
I wish I had mroe time to craft.  Since we moved into a new house and are working on finishing the basement I don’t have anywhere to do crafts.  That may or may not be is the reason I have been slacking on Craft Tuesday.

2. What is your favorite kind of soup?
I prefer chili to soup, but if you are making me choose a soup I have to choose potato soup.  There is just something about it that makes me feel all warm and cozy.

3. Where will you eat Thanksgiving dinner?
Well growing up we always went to my aunt and uncle’s farm for Thanksgiving.  Then we stopped.  I don’t know why.  After that we started going to my grandma’s house.  Since my poppy died and my grandma moved we had all holidays at my parents house which is my grandma’s old house.  NOW, since I moved out and moved to Georgia with N and his family we have Thanksgiving and all holidays at our house.

4. What is your favorite time of day?

Plain and simple.  BEDTIME!

5. Did you start Christmas shopping yet?
As a matter of fact, I am almost done with my Christmas shopping.  I have a few little things that I still need to pick up for stocking stuffers and the stuff to make puppy chow and my grandma’s banana bread basket.  Other than that I am almost done.

I have been having problems with the codes not wanting to work right so you can link up here.

Thankful

With Thanksgiving upon us, I thought I would do a thankful post. When I was younger, we went to my aunt and uncle’s house for Thanksgiving every year.  We would go around the table and say what we were thankful for.  I HATED THAT!  I was a little kid.  At that time in your life you aren’t even sure what being thankful means.  I always said I was thankful for mashed potatoes and got in trouble for it every year.  A kid can be thankful for whatever they want.

As I have grown up and learned what it meant to be thankful I have so much to be thankful for in my life.

I am thankful for my parents.  Without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today.  They not only brought me into this world, they raised me to love God and to know right from wrong.  I love them and miss them so much.

I am thankful for N. I would be totally lost without him.  He means more to me than anything in the world. We have been through so much together and I know he will always be there for me. I love him more than anything.

I am also thankful for my friends.  I may not have seen them in three or more years, but I know they willl always be there for me and love me no matter what.

Thank you all for being in my life and accepting me the way I am.  I love you all so much and I thank God for you everyday.

Today would have been my grandma’s 91st birthday!  Happy birthday Grandma Emily!
She was from Texas so I thought the yellow roses would be perfect.
