If you have been around long enough you know that I love baking. It comforts me. There has always been one thing that I have never made though. A pie. They scared me! Until I realized that they were so easy to make! While my parents were visiting in September I made my first apple pie!
My Beach Bag Essentials
With Summer coming up fast, I tend to start thinking about the beach! I love walking along the beach and playing in the waves! Everyone has different items that they keep in their beach bags. I’m sharing the essential items that are must haves in mine.
First, you need to find a bag that is big enough for your needs. I was using abag that I got as wedding party gifts. Over the years that had gotten too small for everything that I took to the beach. So I started using a cute Victoria Secret tote. It is the perfect size for everything I need to take on a beach trip!
The most important thing that I always have in my beach bag is sunscreen! Like the highest SPF you can get! I burn very easily and always end up looking like a lobster if I forget the sunscreen! Then I’m sore for the next few days and peeling for three weeks after! It is not pretty! So I don’t forget the sunscreen!
Mr. RCGG and I like to do the late afternoon to early evening beach trips. So we always have our bathing suits in the beach bag ready to go! This makes it easier to change back into our regular clothes before going home. We also don’t have to worry about having a to pack an extra pair of clothes.
You can’t go to the beach without your towel right? We have so many different beach towels. Most of them are mine but Mr. RCGG has a couple that aren’t pink! Haha! I also pack a cover up for the walk to the beach! I roll our towels, bathing suits, and my cover up and put them in the bottom of the bag. It gives more room in the bag for anything else we may need to take.
The next item that is essential in my beach bag is my camera. I used to take my little Nikon camera, but Mr. RCGG got me a “big girl” camera for Christmas and I have been learning how to use it this year! So that goes in my beach bag but it is not a permanent resident! Haha!
We also put in a few drinks and snacks. It is pretty hot in the south during the summer so we make sure to keep a few cold drinks on hand. We usually don’t keep them in the actual beach bag though. We use our thermal totes that I got from rewards from a 31 gifts party I hosted! =) I always have snacks in my purse. So having some in the beach bag makes sense right?
That’s my beach bag essentials. It may not seem like a lot but this is what keeps us beach ready all year long! What do you put in your beach bag? What are your beach essentials?
Tourist in Your Own Town
Sometimes you don’t have to go very far to see something new in your area! You can totally find something new in your town! Living in Savannah Georgia has brought so many new places for us to explore!
One of our favorite things to do is just to get out and explore what God has put right in front of us! I’d like to share with you some of our favorite touristy things to do in the Savannah and Hilton Head area! Sometimes finding things that you might think are only something that tourists would be interested in are the things that may end up becoming your favorite things about your town!
The best way to find the best tourist attractions in your area are to use your area’s tourism website. You can find some great things to do that you may not have even known were there.
Some of our favorite tourist sites in the Savannah and Hilton Head area are definitely the historical ones! We love exploring the history of the civil war. Mr. RCGG loves that era of history and just in the Savannah area we have three forts. Fort Pulaski and Fort McCallister (pictured above) are civil war forts and Old Fort Jackson is a Revolutionary and other wars fort.
We also love going to different restaurants that we may not have tried before! There are so many that have such great food and you never know what’s there until you try it! Mr. RCGG has tried a lot more places during his days at work but we always go to them together so that I can try them too!
Take some time to just explore what is in your area. There is so much information on the tourism websites and you can even ask others what their favorite things to do are. You may just find your new favorite place!

Pimento Cheese Deviled Eggs
Have you been wondering what to do with all those hard boiled eggs you dyed for Easter? I don’t like hard boiled eggs, but Mr. RCGG does so I make them for him. I made pimento cheese deviled eggs for him last week and they were really easy!
What you need:
eggs (I usually do six because you will be cutting them in half)
mayo
mustard
pimento cheese
lemon juice
(all measurements are to your preferences. I use two spoonfuls of mayo, a splash of lemon juice, and about a tablespoon of mustard. The pimento cheese was added to taste.)
First, cook your eggs. I usually put the eggs in a pot with water and then bring them to a boil. After the water is boiling, I let them boil for about 5 minutes. Then I take them off the heat and put a lid on the pot. I let them sit for about 10 minutes.
HOWEVER, when I cooked the eggs this time, I put them in the air fryer. I cooked them at 350 degrees for 16 minutes! There was no waiting for them to boil or sitting them aside. I just put them in the air fryer, set the temp and time, and let the fryer cook them!
So the next thing you need to do is to peel them. I drain the water from the pot (if I cooked them in water) and then run them under cold water to peel them. Even using the air fryer I ran the eggs under cold water while peeling them. It is still easier to peel them under the water! =)
Cut your eggs in half and scoop out the yolks with a spoon. One of my eggs had a double yolk and it was kind of cool to see! I had never seen that before! Mash the yolks with a fork and then add the mayo, lemon juice, and mustard stirring until smooth. Add the pimento cheese to your tastes and mix well.
Spoon the yolk mixture into the halved eggs. You can also spoon the yolk mixture into a baggie and snip the tip off to pipe the yolk into the eggs.
There are so many variations of deviled eggs. Sometimes I put hot sauce into the yolks! That’s one of Mr. RCGG’s favorites.

Sunday Loves 3
I have said before that Sunday is one of my favorite days of the week. It is time that I can spend the whole day with Mr. RCGG doing things we need to do around the house or we go out to do something! Sunday Loves is one of my favorite posts from the week now! I love sharing a little of every day life with you!
I had been waiting for last Saturday for three months! In January Mr. RCGG bought tickets for Savannah Ballet Theater production of Wizard of Oz! I couldn’t wait for March 23rd to get here! It finally did though and it was beyond AMAZING! There’s no words that can describe the magic and beauty of seeing a ballet! It was our first time seeing a ballet and won’t be our last! We are already making plans to see The Nutcracker this Christmas season!
The upstairs bathroom is coming along very well! We have most of the walls painted and have a few touch ups left to do on the vanity. Then we will be ready to put down the flooring. We are excited to see how it will look when it is finally done!
What did you love over the past week!
Irish Potato Candy
In 1845 there was a great famine in Ireland. It became known as the Irish Potato Famine. It was a very horrible time in the history of Ireland. You can read more about it by clicking the link above. I wanted something to make for St. Patrick’s Day coming up this weekend and I made Irish Potato Candy last year. Mr. RCGG loved it and it was super easy to make! So I decided to make it again this year! I’m also making Irish Soda Bread and I will have that posted later in the week!
Irish Potato Candy is not made from potatoes as the name would lead you to believe. It is made with cream cheese and then rolled in cinnamon to look like potatoes.
To make your own Irish Potato Candy you need
1/4 cup butter softened
4 ounces cream cheese softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
In a medium bowl beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
Add the vanilla. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar beating well to mix with ever addition.
Chill for 30 minutes. Roll into balls and then form into a potato shape.
Roll balls in cinnamon and place on a cookie sheet lined with foil.
Chill for and additional 30 minutes before serving.
I used a cookie scoop to scoop the cream cheese mixture into a ball. Then dropped it into the cinnamon and rolled it around while forming the potato shape.
Sunday Loves 2
Sunday loves is my new favorite post of the week! Some weeks it may be a little later than others, but I will definitely try to have it up every week before the next Sunday. =)
This past week we had a lot going on! It made for a long weekend but it was a good week! I’ll do a bigger recap of Turtle Crawl later in the month but we had so much fun walking the mile fun run on Saturday!
We were busy from Thursday through the whole weekend! Mr. RCGG was off work on Thursday so we went to visit a friend. We had a great time with him and it was good to catch up!
On Friday, I wasn’t feeling too well! I didn’t take my allergy pill on Thursday and I was definitely feeling it. I spent the day packing for our trip to Jekyll Island though and as soon as we crossed the bridge onto the island I instantly felt better. There’s just something about Jekyll Island that makes me at peace! We were there for only one night but it was well worth it! I’ll do a bigger recap of our night and day there later! We were there for the Turtle Crawl fun run on Saturday.
Saturday morning was the fun run and it was a lot of fun! I can’t wait to do another one! The fun run was at 9 AM so we had the rest of the day to hang out and walk along the beach!
We came home on Saturday evening. It was such a good trip even if it was just a quick one. On Sunday morning we woke up and decided that we were going to Lowe’s to get paint and flooring for our upstairs bathroom. So we got paint at Lowe’s, but they didn’t have the flooring we wanted so we went to Home Depot. I’ll do a before and after post when we have it done! So far it looks really good!
That’s my Sunday loves for this past week. What were you loving last week?
Sunday Loves
Sundays are my favorite day of the week! Wait, WHAT? Sunday? Yes, Sunday! That’s the only day of the week that Mr. RCGG is guaranteed off work and we get to spend the day together doing things that we might not get to during the week!
Anyway, I wanted to take a day every week to share some things that I found over the week that I have loved. These may be purchases, stories, or just something in general that I really liked from the week!
Our Sundays start with having breakfast together every week! It is the only day of the week that Mr. RCGG and I get to have breakfast together. We usually have bacon and eggs, but there are some weeks that we change it up! Last week, I made pancakes. This week I made sausage and eggs.
This week, I’m also loving that we got caught up on things that needed to be done! We washed off our back patio and the fence that separates our yard from our neighbors yard. It was covered in pollen and so gross! it looks so much better now! We also cleaned up around our A/C unit. The landscaping had gotten around the concrete base that they were on and Mr. RCGG kind of pulled it away. It really looks a lot better.
I made a baked chicken alfredo for dinner tonight! It is so easy! I just cook pasta and then add chicken and alfredo sauce. I bake it for around 30 minutes and add mozzerella cheese to the top and let it melt for around 10 minutes.
What are you loving this week?
