Happy birthday Poppy

Today would have been my poppy’s 92nd birthday. He passed away in 2004 and I miss him every day! He was one of my favorite men! l_922254c163d94a558e27d2a3604caca0He served our country in WWII in the 1st Rangers. I’m so proud to be his grand-daughter and I love and miss him every day! 45c44929632082f6150c27afffadae1fEvery year on his birthday we have had chili and pumpkin pie for dinner. It is just a fun family tradition that we started.

This year, I used a recipe I found on Pinterest.  Our pumpkin pie was a fresh baked from Publix. It had just come out of the oven was so good! I’m sure Poppy was sitting at the table having his birthday meal with us!

Here’s a printable version of the recipe for you:

Just a couple of notes:
I added a small can of green chilies. I would season the meat while you are browning it with the chili powder and cayenne pepper. Also there wasn’t a lot of heat if you like spicy chili. I would suggest adding some hot sauce depending on if you like hot chili.

Some of the scrapbook pages I made after he passed.

Cmon Get Crafty Spotlight

Yeah, so I have been HORRIBLE about my blogger spotlight! Here’s October’s spotlight. Maybe next month I can get my act together! So sorry Megan!

Hi there! I’m Megan from C’mon Get Crafty, and thanks so much to Cate for featuring little ole me! 🙂

I’m one of those crazy DIYers who can’t pass a clearance aisle without wondering what re-purposed possibilities it might hold. I’m known for hoarding jars, bottles, fabric scraps, and unloved flea market finds until I finally find a use for them.  I love to share my triumphs and do-overs, and nothing is sacred! Kids crafts, home decor, card making, you name it! I love trying out all sorts of new things, using paint, paper, wood, whatever suits the project!  A few of my favorite projects are:

My Finding Nemo Birthday Party for my son

DIY Photo Canvas

DIY Hutch Rehab

Shabby Chic Wedding Card

My Baby Series, including 9 Baby Shower Gift Ideas, How to Make a Diaper Wreath, Printable Baby Book Pages, and more!

I’m blissfully married to a serial gamer and proud mama of one precocious four year old and his new baby brother. I love to read, watch movies, play games, watch football, and enjoy a glass of wine (or five) with some great friends around a fire pit. When I’m not blogging or slaving away at my full-time job in insurance, I am happily enjoying family time or working myself into an early grave with my own business, making Birthday Blocks – unique custom designed nursery decor and baby gifts. There is no rest for the wicked, lol!

I would love it if you would pop by my blog for a visit! You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Bloglovin, and Pinterest!  Hope to “see” you soon!

The Southern Special 28

Before we get started I’d like to ask you to keep our co-host Dawn’s family in your prayers. Her son is in the ICU.

DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER, WE ASK THAT YOU KEEP DAWN’S SON IN YOUR HAND. HELP THE DOCTORS TAKING CARE OF HIM TO FIND THE ANSWERS TO EASE HIS PAIN. I LIFT DAWN UP TO YOU. KEEP WATCH OVER HER AND CALM HER AS IT’S VERY HARD TO SEE A CHILD IN PAIN, I’M SURE. I KNOW SHE WANTS ANSWERS AS WELL. MAY YOU HEAR MY PRAYER AND WE TAKE COMFORT IN YOUR WORD! IN JESUS’ NAME AMEN!

Hey y’all!  I hope you have had a great couple weeks! I apologize for my absence last week. I came down with something again. I hate when that happens! Anyways, I’m back this week and ready to dive back into blogging! I have been working on some new content and I can’t wait to share it!  I try to have at least a week written out in advance. If I don’t have a project that I’m working on I have a post ready for a project. Like right now, I’m starting on a craft project in the next couple weeks. I have the tutorial named and basic instructions typed up. So know that, you know a little behind how I write my posts, let’s get this party going!

November Blog Plans

Over the past month I have really gotten behind in my 31 days postings. Life kind of got in the way! I will be redoing my 31 days of Proverbs 31during the month of November. This gives me a chance to make sure I do it right this time!

proverbs 31:3-10

Also during the month of November, I’m going to be making some really cute and fun recipes that the kids can help with!

Proverbs 31 3-10

proverbs 31:3-10

I take time over the weekends to spend with my husband, but I’m just now getting around to posting again for the week! We went on a weekend getaway to one of our favorite places, Jekyll Island. It is on the coast of Georgia about an hour south of Savannah GA.

I’m using today as a catch up in my 31 days of Proverbs 31 by looking at Proverbs 31 3-10.

3 Give not your strength to [loose] women, nor your ways to those who and that which ruin and destroy kings.

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to desire strong drink,
5 Lest they drink and forget the law and what it decrees, and pervert the justice due any of the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink [as medicine] to him who is ready to pass away, and wine to him in bitter distress of heart.
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty and [seriously] remember his want and misery no more.
8 Open your mouth for the dumb [those unable to speak for themselves], for the rights of all who are left desolate and defenseless;
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, and administer justice for the poor and needy.
10 A capable, intelligent, and [a]virtuous woman—who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a alcohol vibe from these verses. I can see some ways that drinking would be a good thing. Like in a celebration of someone’s life as in verse 6 or to celebrate a marriage as in Jesus’ first miracle of turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana, but there are also some issues with alcohol. Like when someone drinks to forget their problems like in verse 7. Drinking to forget your problems just causes more problems in life. You start to rely on the alcohol. In verses 8 and 9 I feel is saying to give a voice to those that can’t speak out for themselves. Verse 10 is where Proverbs 31 starts to talk about the Godly woman. A woman that is smart, capable, and virtuous is hard to find because she is more precious and valuable than any jewel.

Admiration

During the month of October, I’m also participating in the Ultimate blog challenge. So there will be days that I have more than one post up during the day! I’m going to be a very busy person this month huh? I’m starting with this challenge today.

UBC

Everyone has someone they admire. You can let that person know or admire them from afar! There are many people in my life that I admire. Some of them know and some don’t. I think it depends on if you fell comfortable enough with that person that you tell them!

Growing up I never thought of my mother as a friend. She was my mom. She was the one that told me what to do and not to do because she wanted what was best for me in my life. She may have grounded me when I brought home a bad grade, but now I know she just wanted me to do well in school. She may have told me not to do something that I wanted to do. I know now that she didn’t want me to get hurt if it turned out to be dangerous.

Over the past ten years, I have realized that my mom is my best friend. She’s the one that has been there for me my whole life. She’s the one that knows what my heartbeat sounds like from the inside. When I moved to Georgia, I called home every week. Just to talk about things. As soon as I got settled in to every day life in a new state the call started to drop. Now, I don’t call as much, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still admire my mom! She’s my mom! A girl will always need her mom no matter how far away life takes her!

A Mother’s Love is a Beautiful Thing

A mother’s love is a beautiful thing.

A mother is a child’s first friend.

Love from a mother has no end.

A child’s love for a mother has no end.

A mother is a child’s first friend.

All the happy moments

in a child’s life

a mother is there.

All the bad moments

in a child’s life

a mother is there.

A mother is there through it all.

A mother’s love is a beautiful thing.

31 Days of a Proverbs 31 Life

Are you coming by from 31 days? I hope you check out my About Me to learn a little bit more about the RCGG. I’m looking forward to spending this time with God and my readers!

31daysbutton

I enjoy spending time with my God and I enjoy the blessing he gives me each day. I keep a blessings journal where I make a list of what God has blessed me with that day! I just started this in September so I really have just begun. I’m looking forward to these lists becoming longer as I continue. Maybe one day I’ll share a few lists from this journal.

As I read today’s verses, it was very hard to only use verse one. If I left it at that it would sound confusing because you wouldn’t know what Lemuel’s mother taught him.

Proverbs3112Anyways, I decided to use two verses to start out because verse one really wasn’t much and I didn’t think it made sense without verse two.

I think that in these verses a mother is telling her son to always look to God. No matter what is going on in your life ask for God’s guidance. You may not have instant results, but in time He will give you the answers He wants you to have. It may not be what you are wanting to hear, but it is what He wants in your life!

As I continue my Proverbs 31adventure, I’m looking forward to learning what God has to say about being a Godly woman. I’m also going to include some of my favorite passages from Fawn Weaver’s book Happy Wives Club. I think a Happy Wife is a Godly woman. God works in your life even if you don’t know it! He has given us His Word to share with others!

Since this is my first post on this topic, I hope that I will get a little better at professing my faith in God on my blog. I talk about it, but this is the first time I’m going in depth with it. I hope you enjoy my 31 days of Proverbs 31.
